Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Based on the recommendation of my fellow foodie, MaryLiz S., I made my way over to Anthony's to give it a try. I went around noon and there was just one other person in the restaurant. My first impression was that it definitely has an old school pizza feel: modestly size and decor, checkered floor, up and close look at them making your pizza. There were three guys in the back working. The guy who appeared to be the owner or the boss took my order. Based on the Yelp reviews and because I was just grabbing a quick lunch, I decided to just try the slices. He told me they had two options: meat and veggie. Of course, I had to get one of each to get a good sampling of their pizza. I'm not huge on onions so I asked if I could get my veggie without onions. Unfortunately, I was told I could not because it was already pre-made. It wasn't a big deal because I figured I could just take them off. After I placed my order, I saw them put my slices in the large black oven. Since they were sliced that were already made, I didn't think it would take that long. Maybe it was because I was in a hurry trying to make it back to work before my lunch hour was over, but the wait seemed a little long to me. I thought the slices just had to reheated but it appeared as if they were baking it on the spot versus just reheating. I patiently waited because I had a feeling it would worth the wait. I'd much rather wait for good, quality food that get mediocre or yucky food in a hurry. Shortly after, I was told my order was ready and that my total came to $6.00 even. I paid and quickly made my way to the car. I wasn't going to wait until I got back to work. I had to taste these babies fresh and hot, in all their glory, like they were meant to be consumed....and it was love at first bite. It was piping hot and the cheese was plentiful and the pizza sauce on top was perfectly balanced, not too sweet and not too acidic. The meat was heavy on the meat which was made it very filling. The veggie was also very flavorful, I'm sure due to the spinach and the feta. And the crust, my oh my, that crust. It was just pure perfection. I'm a bread lover so the more, the merrier. It was just a glorious experience in your mouth. If I had to choose, I'd say I actually prefer the veggie over the meat. The veggie definitely was heavy on the onions and since I'm not an onion lover, I found myself constantly scraping off the onions but even still, it was pretty amazing. All in all, I'll definitely be back and am looking forward to trying a full pizza, a calzone, and maybe even a sub. Those looked pretty tasty as well. In the future, I think I'll call ahead and place my order and definitely avoid onions. I must admit though, for this to not be Chicago, they were pretty spot on with the authentic flavor. I'd even venture out in saying I like it better than some of the very famous pizza places in Chicago (you know who you are). Thanks for the recommendation, MaryLiz S.! I see why it's your favorite.

Hands down, the best pizza in Ann Arbor. I get the same thing every time- pizza bianca everde on Sicilian crust. The crust is thick, well-seasoned, and covered in crunchy sesame seeds. The sauce is deep and rich. Then the addition of whole roasted garlic cloves and potatoes make this pizza unique and amazing.

As a New Yorker, I can tell you: the "New York style" pizza here is AWESOME. Love the meatballs too, and I've come to be a big fan of their spinach-stuffed "Popeye" pizzas too. Fantastic!

As someone who grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, I love all things about Chicago style pizza. The sheer weight of cheese and toppings on top of a buttery crust. The inevitable food coma that follows. Anthony's is the closest thing to Chicago deep dish pizza I've had outside of the windy city. The favorite pizza of mine is the vegetarian delight, but then I add in roasted garlic. The veggies are all fresh and the bites of roasted garlic are perfect complements the sweet sauce and cheese. I actually like the veggie toppings much more than the meat toppings, which tend to be too salty for my preference. One criticism is delivery time: Almost always they take an hour (or more) for delivery, even though I live 5-10 minutes away. I typically just go pick it up to save the hassle of waiting.

I've eaten various Chicago deep dishes both in Ann Arbor and Chicago and I would say this is the best attempt in Ann Arbor at matching its windy city variants. The food is freshly prepared and delicious and the portions are reasonable. Docking a star because the price is definitely a bit more than I would like to spend on a pizza; however, this is definitely worth a bite if you are tired of eating Domino's and Little Caesars.

After reading so many positive reviews, I was excited to try Anthony's pizza. Sadly, I was not impressed. $20 for a large three topping take and bake pizza is a little much. It wasn't all that great. I would take a Jet's pizza over this one. I think I would try it again, just to try their deep dish pizza, but for your basic, round pizza, I'll pass. In addition, they have a lot of sandwich selections that look interesting. I would come back for a sandwich. The interior needs a lot of work. A LOT.

Anthony's is the best pizza in Ann Arbor. The sauce is the most flavorful -- something about the blend of herbs? The crust is perfect. The cheese and toppings fresh... It's our go-to pizza for poker nights or the occasional too-lazy-to-cook night. We first had it several years ago because a super-foodie friend of ours ordered from there, a foodie friend who makes his own sausages, which are delicious, and someone whose judgment regarding gourmet pizza I would trust over many others'. Regardless of his approving judgment of Anthony's, that first slice would have been a revelation even if I'd found it on the sidewalk. I just had to say something (this might be my first Yelp review, not sure), because I'm outraged that Anthony's did not win the recently completed AnnArbor.com "best pizza" poll. Anthony's apparently started out the poll with a big lead, and then Pizza House, whose pizza tastes to me like cardboard, got a bunch of votes and surged ahead and won the poll. I do not understand how that happened. There is no justice.

Anthony's had great reviews, and I trust my Yelpers.. so I HAD to try it when my most recent pizza craving struck. YELP DID NOT DISAPPOINT. They have a variety of crust options (deep dish, original, thin) - although the crust was probably the least remarkable part of the experience - it was good enough. The toppings and the service are what really make Anthony's Gourmet worth Yelpin' about. There are so many toppings to choose from that it took me awhile to decide. The staff was very accommodating of my special requests (of course I couldn't just order off of the standard menu). I ended up with a 'traditional round' pizza with eggplant, zucchini and sundried tomatoes AND a thin crust with chicken, roasted garlic, and asparagus. I asked for both with "light cheese" and only one seemed to come that way but both were delicious and both were absolutely COVERED in toppings. Toppings for days! With other pizza places I have been burned - paying $2-3 for 'garlic' that you can't find on the pizza, or 1-2 pieces of scattered eggplant (even when I asked for extra). NOT HERE. Oh, no. Anthony's gives you plenty of bang for your buck. Whole, large cloves of garlic, chunks of chicken and so many veggies you can't keep it all on your slice. I originally called the location downtown because they're closer, but it turns out they don't deliver until after 3:30. Luckily this location does, AND the driver came out in a snowstorm, came into my apartment building and all the way up to the third floor. Usually I have to trek outside to get my deliveries - this was service! Thanks, Anthony's, for the great experience. I will be dialing you again soon.

Anthony's pizza is the best! Has not disappointed me in over 15 years of eating there! They use fresh ingredients and that cheese is pure ooey gooey heaven!!

I give very few 5 star but this place really deserves 6 stars. All home made pizza. It was great for our kids. They loved the New York style pizza. calzone's were excellent and huge!! I was a big fan of the stuffed meat pizza which you can order by the slice. We will definitely be back.
(5)C. A.
Killer deep dish and good customer service. Love the whole wheat crust and the thin pizza's too.
(5)Albert T.
Literally as good as it gets for pizza in Ann Arbor. Sicilian deep dish all the way. The only place better in Michigan is Tomatoes Apizza, which serves an entirely different New Haven style pizza.
(5)R S.
Everyone is telling the truth: this is definitely the best (delivery) pizza in Ann Arbor. Their Chicago deep dish is excellent, and the closest you'll find to authentic in this area with a great buttery crust and zesty sauce that isn't overwhelmingly sweet. I just wish those I live with didn't prefer thin crust so that I could justify ordering it more often!

Excellent pizza! I can't believe we have not tried Anthony's Pizza before this evening. The shop at Maple and Miller is conveniently located on my way home from work! A huge plus in my opinion. Tonight we tried take-out as we were delivering pizza to our friend's house for dinner. We ordered two medium sized regular pizzas as we didn't know how good the pizza would be nor did we know the size of pizza. The crust was perfect for our taste. It was not thin crispy nor doughy at all but the perfect baked-through regular pizza crust. We had a Italian sausage and black olive as well as a hamburger and mushroom. The Italian sausage and black olive was very good and not too spicy nor salty. The hamburger and mushroom was fairly mild and needed more taste/spice but frankly we ordered the combo so someone with belly problems would be OK. We ordered for pickup and was given a 25 minute time frame. When we picked up a bit longer than the 25 minutes the pizza was on a warming tray, not in a box just getting cold. A quick trip to our friend's house resulted in a warm and delightful pizza dinner! Bravo for the cooks that did not put the pizza in a box to get cold. We are really impressed with Anthony's and frankly wonder what rock we have been under to not know about the place! Hubby and I have decided that a small pizza and a salad will be a perfect weekday evening's meal. We will be back! Thanks Anthony!

My previous review was almost 2 years old, so I just wanted to write a short update. I'm still a huge fan of this pizza place and order from there about twice a month. We recently tried the New York Style Thin Crust pizza and it was just as amazing as I hoped it would be (I think it's my new favorite)!! I am drooling just thinking about it. By far, Anthony's (still) has the best pizza in Ann Arbor.

Best pizza in Ann Arbor. Over the summer, my roommate let me try some variation of deep dish from this place and I practically drooled on myself. Yesterday before work, I decided to split a medium Margarita Sicilian Deep Dish pizza with my boyfriend. Yes, that's $12 apiece. We picked up, and it came out to ~$25.50. Ok, so let me start by admitting something: I am biased against/for pizza places based on a few very autistically selected matters of flavor-related importance. One, when someone says "garlic," I expect the sweet, roasted cloves of a well-run kitchen. NOT the powder. Cloves or bust! Two, the crust should not taste like a bunch of yeast and butter having a party. The crust should be flaky and lightly buttered, and somewhat limited in scope - not 1/3 of each slice. Lastly, you have to know how to make a good margarita pizza! When my pizza arrived, I relished in the sweet interior of ripe tomatoes, whole cloves of garlic, and roasted red peppers. They didn't short me anything. I could only eat one piece even though it was my first meal of the day, and I had two pieces left over for the coming days. Go here if you can foot the bill for a week of pizza by yourself, because considering that statistic it really isn't all that expensive and that's how long it will take to eat an Anthony's medium by yourself. You won't need anything else.

Moving into my new place and I had no food in the house but a very hungry tummy. I love the pizza from Anthony's other location and since this one was closer to my new house I gave them a buzz for delivery. The pizza came to my house quickly and arrived hot and fresh along with a delicious salad. I just got the basic round topped with pepperoni, mushrooms, and garlic. The garlic is fresh and has a nice kick to it. The sauce is a little sweet but also a touch spicy. The salad came with loads of veggies and a delicious house dressing that is a great mix of balsamic, olive oil, and some herbs and spices. Their menu is varied and for a pizza place they have A LOT of options. They have a take and bake pizza you can get and bake at home if you want a little more control over when you take that baby out of the oven. Thin crust, Sicilian deep dish, and more are also available. Also, having lived in Chicago for a few years I do have a soft spot for their style of deep dish so I look forward to trying that variety out in the near future. I'm also intrigued by their sandwich board offerings and cheesy garlic flat bread. How good does that sound? Yes. I can see myself ordering from here A LOT. Welcome to the neighborhood, Annette. You're going to get the Anthony's 15. It's gonna be GREAT.

Hands down best pizza in Ann Arbor! Amazing crust, hearty sauce, and ooey gooey cheese. And I haven't even mentioned the gourmet toppings. You can't miss this gem tucked in a northwest end strip mall.
(4)Tricia K.
We had a pepperoni, mushroom and green pepper thin crust pizza which was pretty good. It was certainly better than a chain pizza joint. I'd say it was pretty standard and nothing about it stood out but decent. A little on the expensive side.

3.5 stars would be more precise. The Chicago style pizza is very good. Full of flavor and quality ingredients. Just not as "thick" as the Chicago style pizza I am used to. Crust is very tasty as well. Was not impressed with the layout of the joint. I checked out their website before going and it seemed to be a nice Dine-In type of restaurant similar to Pizzapolis, but when we got there, we were surprised to find it in the back of a small strip mall with only about 10 basic tables and very little decor. What was supposed to be a nice night out with the wife ended up being a slightly awkward 1 1/2 hours of sitting in the corner of a "jet's Pizza" type of place and eating with plastic silverware and paper plates. I think this place would do A LOT better if they changed locations and had a better dining experience for their customers. In my opinion, if you charge $20 for a pizza, you should do better than paper plates and plastic forks.

I've had Anthony's Gourmet Pizza for the last 15 to 20 years and their Gourmet style pizza is as good now as it was the first time I had it way back when. I like the open face, crisp-style crust as opposed to the Chicago-style which is has the crust top and is a softer style dough. The Sicilian square is great too...much better than that other Ann Arbor pizza institution. The sauce is the best, not too sweet and just the right amount of garlic and spice. The price and the wait are well worth it! If you've not tried Anthony's then you are missing out on the REAL pizza institution in Ann Arbor!!
(5)Aaron L.
I've had vegetarian pizza's from the Round Specialty Pizza and Sicilian Deep Dish sections of the menu. For take and delivery Anthony's is the real deal. I recommend the Sicilian Deep Dish, a square pie with sesame seeds on the crust piled high with toppings, yum. Warning, they are heavy handed with a garlic, a plus in my book. They do have tables for dining in, but you're not going there for ambiance.
(5)Ray A.
Fabulous pizza. Great, creative topping combinations--including vegetarian and cheeseless options. The crust on both the gourmet and Sicilian pizzas is crisp and tasty. Sauce is quite good, too. This is super garlic-y, delicious pizza.
(4)Dave K.
Anthony's is hands down the best Chicago style pizza in southeast michigan. It will set you back a little more than other pizza joints but you get what you pay for! The ingredients are fresh and the sauce is amazing - very flavorful. The crust is buttery and delicious. I have read some other reviews where people complain about plastic ware and paper plates. Trust me, no one goes to Anthony's for the cutlery. Check it out and have your mind blown. You're welcome!
(5)Alvin M.
The Absolute Best Pizza in Ann Arbor, period! The ingredients are top quality. I haven't tried their Chicago Style Pizza yet. But by the reviews, I'll have to definitely try it soon. I'm addicted to their NY Style Pizza. I'll even go as far as it's as good, if not better, then the pizza places I've visited in NY. My Wife is not really into pizza, but I got a NY Style Pizza from here, and she ate 3 pieces including the CRUST!! She never, ever eats the crust on any pizza I get from other places. The next days, we had some left over. She reheated it, and didn't offer me any!! That says a lot about a pizza place. Trust me!! Give this place a try. You'll fall in love too!!
(5)Eric B.
Some of the best pizza in Ann Arbor if not the best Sicilian and deep dish. It's pricey for a pie, but it will feed you for a week. They also offer slices of their deep dish veggie or meat for $3 a piece. Be wary of the Potato Florentina Pizza unless you LOVE garlic.
(4)Westside M.
The make the best deep dish pizza. Truly amazing. Our family from the West Coast always requests an Anthony's pizza when they visit us here in Ann Arbor. A large deep dish costs about $20 w/delivery and, in my experience, feeds 6+ hungry adults.
(5)Neil H.
This pizza is THE BEST pizza in Ann Arbor, and among the best pizza I've ever had anywhere. I don't even know how to describe how amazing this pizza is. You just have to try it! I always order the Chicago style stuffed pizza. It's deep dish Chicago style pie (duh...hence the name. hehe). It's got a thin layer of dough over the pizza, with the "toppings" stuffed under it. There is a layer of sauce on top of the dough. The crust is AWESOME. You can tell that Anthony's uses top ingredients. The cheese is way better than any other mozzarella used by local pizza parlors. You can tell it's quality mozzarella from the taste, and also the way it strings when you pull your slice out of the box. Really creamy and delicious. The sauce always tastes super fresh and has a great balance of tangy and slightly spicy-sweet. The guy who runs the place (Anthony?) always remembers me when I call. And it's not because of caller ID either, I've called from several different numbers over the years. He just knows my voice. He always says "hi Neil" after I begin talking. No, I don't order this pizza every day either. Lol. He just has a good memory for his regulars. I get Anthony's maybe once every two weeks or so. He's a cool guy and it's just another reason why I love the "neighborhood pizza joint" feel that a local indie pizza shop like this has. I know I always rant about local indie business in my reviews. This place is just another reason why you should support local shops. the pizza is wayyyy better than anywhere else around here. NYC style pizza is not included however, because they are two totally different things. I can't recommend this place enough if you want amazing, fantastic pizza. Oh, and it's almost better warmed up the next day. YES!
(5)Monica V.
I literally live feet from Anthony's. I"m very picky about pizza so I was reluctant to try something new. I decided to go slow and order something generic for my first time, just to see what they were all about. I got a sicilian, plain cheese. I know, quite boring but I didn't want to risk anything and I just wanted to get a feel for the pizza. The cheese to sauce ratio was great. That is a biggie for me, I feel like you should AT LEAST have equal parts cheese to sauce, which I think Anthony's accomplishes. The sicilian crust was also good, with TONS of sesame seeds and a nice thick dough. Overall, I will definately go here again based on what we ordered. I'll have to try the deep dish next time and see how that goes.
(4)Jake K.
Best gourmet pizza in Ann arbor, best deep dish! Me and my ex went here, then went to eat at pizza uno's in chicago. Upon exiting Pizza unos, we both came up with the conclusion independently that Anthony's is better than chicago. Anthony's is some of the best pizza I've ever had.
(5)Tim T.
Best deep dish pizza in Michigan! Carnivorous delight in the anthony's deep dish style, is easily one of the best pizzas that I have ever eaten. Regular round pizza is good, but you are doing a dis-service to yourself if you buy anything but the deep dish. If you like pizza where one piece is enough for a meal, this is the place for you.
